Learn a language by living a story
LangMi is a language-learning app for iPhone and iPad. Instead of a lesson list, you move to London and learn English through what happens to you: a passport check at the airport, a new neighbour, the café on the corner, a market, a laundrette. Season 1, The Corner Café, is twelve chapters of A1 English with a real voice for every character. You choose every line you say in real dialogues, fill in the blanks, build sentences from words, and hand over the right thing when someone asks for it: what people give you in the story lands in your bag.
Say it out loud
Speaking exercises listen to your lines, with on-device speech recognition where your iPhone supports it, and a chapter can be played three ways: Guided, with help at hand; with No Translation; or Spoken, saying every line out loud.
Words that come back before you forget
Every word and phrase from the story goes into your Travel Journal with its picture, sound and example sentence, and spaced repetition brings it back just before you would forget it. Each chapter brings one grammar topic in plain words, and the journal keeps the grammar lessons, the Pocket Guide (the alphabet, numbers and lifesaver phrases) and the characters you have met. Daily training gives a fresh set of ten exercises from the stops you have been to, and a list of past mistakes brings back exactly what you got wrong. At the end of a chapter Mi, your travel companion, goes over the day with you in a chat.
Mini games
Short games made from the words and sentences of the chapters you have finished: In a Blink (name 20 pictures as fast as you can), Say It! (name 15 pictures out loud), Swipe It! (right or wrong, 60 seconds of grammar), Word of the Day (spell the word in the picture in six tries), Catch the Train (build the sentence before the doors close), Word Candy (match pictures with their words) and Sentence Duel (build sentences card by card against the story's characters). In the Word Garden every word you learned grows as a plant, and watering it is review. Three games are free on every plan; LangMi PRO opens the others.
Learn together with your teacher
On a chapter's page, tap Learn Together and show your teacher the six-digit code. Your teacher joins your story live from LangMi on their own iPhone or iPad, and their app follows the same chapter, step and answers as yours, and they can leave notes you read on your Today page. Teachers see their students' finished chapters, lesson summaries and notes in one list. It needs LangMi PRO on both devices and signing in with Apple; see the LangMi Teacher Terms.
Badges, themes and 12 languages
Over a hundred badges for what you do along the way, weekly and all-time leaderboards on Game Center, LangMi's own light and dark looks and the 24 Codigrate themes, a Home Screen widget and a daily reminder. The interface and the meaning of every line come in 12 languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, Russian, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic.
Free, with optional PRO
The free seasons are free from the first chapter to the last, with no daily limits, and review and training are free on every plan. LangMi PRO, monthly or yearly with a free first month, opens the PRO stories up to C2, all the mini games, learning with your teacher, the PRO themes and learning several languages side by side. No ads and no tracking, and you don't need an account to learn: see the LangMi privacy policy.
Questions
- What is LangMi?
- LangMi is a language-learning app for iPhone and iPad built on a story. You move to a new city and learn through what happens to you: you choose your lines in real dialogues, say them out loud, and every word and phrase you meet goes into a journal that brings it back before you forget it. The first story, The Corner Café, is twelve chapters of A1 English in London.
- Is LangMi free?
- Yes. The free seasons are free from the first chapter to the last, with no daily limits, and review, training, the journal, badges and three mini games are free on every plan. LangMi PRO, a monthly or yearly subscription with a free first month, opens the PRO stories up to C2, all the mini games, learning with your teacher, the PRO themes and learning several languages side by side.
- Which languages can I learn?
- English first: The Corner Café teaches A1 English in London, and new seasons and languages come in updates. The interface and the meaning of every line are in 12 languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, Russian, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic.
- How does learning with a teacher work?
- On a chapter's page you tap Learn Together and show your teacher the six-digit code. Your teacher joins from LangMi on their own device, you accept, and their app follows your story step by step, and they can leave notes you read on your Today page. There is no voice or video in the app; talk on a call if you like. It needs LangMi PRO on both devices, signing in with Apple and an internet connection, and the teacher profile is for adults.
- Do I need an account?
- No. You can learn without signing in, and then everything stays on your device. Signing in with Apple is optional: it carries your progress to your other devices and lets you learn with a teacher.
- Why does LangMi ask for the microphone?
- Only for the speaking exercises, and only while you are speaking. Where your device supports on-device speech recognition, your voice never leaves the device, and no audio is recorded or stored.
- I have LangMi PRO on another device. How do I get it back?
- Open Settings › LangMi PRO and tap Restore purchases while signed in with the same Apple Account. PRO is tied to your Apple Account, not to your progress.
- How do I cancel the subscription?
- Subscriptions are managed by Apple: on your device go to Settings › your name › Subscriptions, choose LangMi and tap Cancel. You keep PRO until the end of the period you have paid for. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- How do I delete my data?
- Without an account, Settings › Account › Delete my data erases everything LangMi keeps on the device and returns the app to its first screen. If you are signed in, Settings › Account › Delete account deletes your account and its online copy together with everything on the device.
- Which devices does LangMi run on?
- iPhone and iPad with iOS 18 or later.
